PGT Window Replacement: The Coral Springs Owner’s Guide

If you have a PGT window that’s fogged, leaking, or binding, the fix usually comes down to replacing the sash, the glass package, or the hardware rather than tearing out the whole frame. TruePane stocks PGT-compatible replacement parts and glass on our trucks, and a typical PGT window replacement in Coral Springs runs between $275 and $850 per opening depending on the series, glass package, and whether the frame itself needs work. Most single-opening replacements take us under two hours on site.

We usually hear from Coral Springs homeowners after the first heavy rain of summer or the first cool snap of January. A window that held up fine for fifteen years suddenly shows moisture between the panes, an operating crank that used to move easily now grinds, or a bedroom window that won’t stay shut when the afternoon storms roll in off the Everglades. The failure rarely announces itself. It just starts costing you a little more each month in comfort, noise, and eventually water damage. Dale Kessler says measure it right the first time, and the rest of the job takes care of itself. That applies as much to replacement parts as it does to full installs, because a PGT sash that’s even slightly out of square will bind in the same place every season.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT builds several distinct lines, and the parts are not interchangeable across all of them. In Coral Springs, we most often work on the WinGuard aluminum impact line, the SpectraGuard vinyl impact series, and the older PGT 4500 and 5500 legacy frames that are still in service from the early 2000s housing boom. Each uses different balance systems, different sash profiles, and different glass thickness tolerances.

Before you order a replacement sash or balance, get the model info off the corner label or the spacer bar between the glass panes. The label will show the series number, the glass make-up (like 5/16″ laminated or 7/16″ insulated laminated), and a manufacturing date. One gotcha we see often: a WinGuard single-hung sash from 2011 won’t drop into a 2018 frame even when both are “WinGuard.” PGT changed the weatherstripping profile and the tilt latch depth around 2015. If you’re looking at aftermarket parts to save money, some quality equivalents exist for balances and cranks, but we won’t install an aftermarket glass package in a PGT impact frame. The lamination spec and the sealant chemistry matter too much in a hurricane zone, and an aftermarket pane will void whatever factory coverage still applies. TruePane is an independent PGT service provider, not a factory affiliate, so we give you the honest split between OEM and equivalent without a sales agenda.

Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Fog or condensation between the panes. The seal has failed and the desiccant strip inside the spacer is spent. Once moisture is inside an insulated glass unit, resealing is not a durable fix, and the glass package needs to be replaced.
  • Sash won’t stay up or won’t close square. The block-and-tackle balances or constant-force springs have lost tension. On older PGT single-hungs in Coral Springs, the vinyl shoe at the base of the balance cracks after years of thermal cycling and then the sash sags on one side.
  • Hard crank or a crank that slips. The operator gear inside the housing has stripped or the pivot arm is bent. This is nearly always a hardware replacement, not a lube-and-adjust job, and it only gets worse with use.
  • Water staining on the interior sill or drywall under the window. The weeps are plugged or the glazing bead has pulled away from the glass. In Coral Springs’s summer rain pattern, a small bead failure can put a steady amount of water into the wall cavity every afternoon.
  • Drafts you can feel with the back of your hand on a breezy day. The weatherstripping has compressed beyond recovery or the sash has shifted in the frame. A draft is not just comfort lost. It is how a window slowly starts pulling moisture and heat into places it was never meant to go.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here is what we see in the Coral Springs market when we quote a PGT window replacement:

Service Typical Installed Price in Coral Springs
Replace glass package only (same sash) $275 - $425
Replace full sash (WinGuard or SpectraGuard) $350 - $650
Replace balances, shoes, and tilt latches $140 - $280
Replace operator and crank hardware $120 - $240
Full frame tear-out and replacement $850 - $2,400 per opening

The price difference between a glass-only swap and a full frame tear-out comes down to whether the frame itself is still square and sealed. An older PGT frame that still drains well and has no rot or channel damage is often a candidate for a glass or sash replacement. A frame that has been taking water for years is not. TruePane gives you written line-item pricing before the job starts, and we register both warranty layers before the truck leaves your driveway. That’s the Keystone Standard, and it’s in writing on every quote.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check on your own. Look at the corner labels to identify your series. Take a photo of the glass code. Check the sills and weeps for visible debris. Those details will save time when you call us.

What we don’t recommend is pulling a PGT impact sash out of the frame yourself. These units are heavy, the laminated glass makes them much heavier than a standard window, and the balance system in a PGT frame is under real tension even when the sash is down. A 5/16″ laminated WinGuard sash can weigh over 40 pounds, and if a balance spring lets go while you’re working, it can take a finger with it. We have replaced more than one sash that a homeowner damaged trying to free it from the jambs with a pry bar. If the window is failing, call us at (727) 261-2215. A trained tech with the right lifting pad and balance tool will have it out and back in without damaging the frame or your hands.

★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."
